In this video, Randy Newberg chats with Montana wildlife biologist, Michael Yarnall. State biologists are a great resource for hunters to learn from. But as Randy explains, they have other jobs to do and aren't simply your hunting consultant. So in order to make the most of your own as well as their time, Randy and Michael explain the pre-planning and initial research you can do before making the call.
Most states have a number of helpful resources such as hunt planners on their website. Combine that with a GPS mapping platform and you can learn a lot about a unit before you set foot in it or call a biologist for info. Michael explains that most biologists are happy to help share what they can with hunters, but can only get so specific in the details.
